# The Ultimate Char Dham Yatra Itinerary
Embarking on the Char Dham Yatra is considered one of the highest spiritual milestones in Hinduism. Hidden deep inside the majestic Himalayas of Uttarakhand, the four shrines—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—are a true test of devotion and physical endurance.
The Sequence of the Yatra
Traditionally, the Yatra is meant to be completed in a clockwise direction. Unknowingly, many start randomly, but the path is set from West to East: 1. **Yamunotri** – The journey begins at the source of the river Yamuna. A 6-km trek awaits you, setting the physical tone of the trip. 2. **Gangotri** – The birthplace of the holy river Ganga. 3. **Kedarnath** – Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this shrine involves a rigorous 16-18 km trek from Gaurikund. 4. **Badrinath** – The final stop, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, offering a peaceful conclusion to the rigorous journey.
Best Time to Visit
The temples are generally open from May to November. However, **May to June** and **September to October** are ideal. It is strongly advised to avoid the monsoon months (July and August) due to the high risk of landslides.
Physical Preparation
The treks, especially to Kedarnath and Yamunotri, require good cardiovascular health. Start preparing by doing brisk walking and breathing exercises at least a month before your travel date.
